Peruvian cuisine has entered the stage of international gastronomy with full credits! Through the influence of rare ingredients and recipes from the Amazon and the Andes, combined with international influences such as Oriental and Spanish, Peruvian gastronomy celebrates a unique and utterly delightful flavours. The itinerary will have you tasting a diversity of flavours and what Peru has to offer whilst exploring the highlights of the coast and the Andes. The mixture of Peruvian products and the stories, traditions and locations behind them is what inspires us to cultivate and present our finest cuisine.
The following schedule has been custom designed by our team and are referential tours that show what Kichwa has to offer.
KICHWA – Highlights del Tour
Arrival to Lima & dinner at “amaZ” Restaurant.
One of our representatives will welcome you at Lima airport and give you your customized welcome pack with all the information regarding your itinerary. In the evening, enter Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino´s restaurant named “amaZ” and enjoy an unforgettable experience where his kitchen will bring surprises to guests like no other! Exotic and unfamiliar ingredients come together to bring high cuisine to a new level! Learn about the exotic fruits from the Amazon, such as tumbo, camu camu and carambola as the bartender prepares some colourful cocktails. Enjoy an exceptional meal prepared with a variety of products that the Amazon has to offer.
Fly to Cusco & Dinner at MAP Cafe.
Depart Lima and arrive to Cusco airport with a transfer to your hotel. In the evening, you will have dinner at MAP Café known for its distinctive modern style. The building resembles a large glass cube and harmonises perfectly with the courtyard of the colonial town house housing the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art. The menu is original and Chef Manuel Cordova incorporates the best Andean components to create a Peruvian Style of haute cuisine. Overnight at selected hotel.
Experience the Sacred Valley:
Today we set off to visit the beautiful Sacred Valley with picturesque villages. First stop is Awanacancha - a weaving center with the goal to keep the traditional textile arts vibrant and alive. From here we will continue onto the village of Pisaq and its Ruins. Descend to the village of Urubamba where you will enjoy a tasting menu at “El Huacatay” restaurant. Chef Pío Vasquez has created one of the most original culinary styles in Cusco and will no doubt surprise you! His whole preparation is based on unusual local ingredients blended with elements from the Mediterranean and the Oriental influences. Afterwards, you will have a guided tour of Ollantaytambo ruins before checking into your hotel. Overnight at selected hotel.
Arrival to Machu Picchu & Tour.
You will be astonished at your first view of Machu Picchu, a stunning display of ancient architecture with incredible surroundings. Enjoy a guided tour of the ruins and monuments such as the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and the Cemeteries. Tour includes a guided group tour and a return bus from Aguas Calientes village. This afternoon travel by train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo. From Ollantaytambo train station, travel back to Cusco. Overnight at selected hotel.
Today fly to Lima & Dinner at “Astrid & Gaston” Restaurant.
Transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Lima where our representative will pick you up to transfer you to your hotel. In the evening, you will have a farewell dinner at “Astrid & Gaston” Restaurant, Gaston Acurio’s most famous restaurant, known for his special Peruvian cuisine. Gastón Acurio is a true culinary visionary who has put all his effort into rediscovering Peruvian cuisine and offering typical Peruvian meals in a modern and appealing way. He has turned his vision into reality by creating various successful restaurant franchises that focus specifically on Peruvian cuisine. Our charismatic chef will take you on a fascinating and educational journey through the fragrances and tastes of the country, all mixed in a typical “Peruvian Market”. After, you will prepare and taste some delicious dishes under his guidance.
Cusco Walking City Tour & Chocolate Experience.
In the morning, take a Walking City Tour of Plaza de Armas, the Coricancha (the famous Temple of Gold) and visit the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales (Traditional Textiles) and the museum created by world renowned indigenous Quechua weaver, Nilda Callañuapa. This is the perfect place to start your journey in the world of Andean textiles. Afterwards, you will participate on a 2-hour chocolate workshop where you will see the chocolate making process from the cacao bean to the chocolate bar. You will also be able to make some to take back home for your family and friends. Overnight at selected hotel.
Preparing Pachamanca with a local community
Today, visit a local community located in the fertile Sacred Valley. On arrival, you will be greeted with traditional folkloric music and be presented with beautiful Incan flowers (Kantu). After the welcoming ceremony, we begin the tour: “Flavours of the Andes”. You will be given an apron and taken to a communal cooking area where the tour will take place. Begin with a short presentation about the various different ingredients used in Andean cuisine and what their nutritional values are. Each participant will work side-by-side with a local from Huchuy Qosqo in preparing a savoury lunch that we will be enjoyed early in the afternoon. Later, we take a short break before starting on dinner. Products such as potatoes, quinoa, corn, grains and organic vegetables are the main elements of this culinary exhibition. All villagers have been trained in sanitary food preparation and the food is guaranteed to be safe. End the tour with a transfer to the train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. Cusco Culinary & Pisco Experience.
Peruvian gastronomy has expanded in so many levels! From this tour, you will gain a different perspective of Peruvian cuisine and how its culture has transformed it. This experience begins by absorbing all the components varying from chocolate, ají pepper, herbs, spices and coffee aromas. We then observe the distinct texture of Andean grains such as kiwicha, quinoa, canihua and a large variety of native products from the Andes. After a visit to the local market of San Pedro, make your way to the kitchen to prepare an appetizer and a main platter. Finally, try out different piscos brought from various bodegas or vineyards along the Peruvian coast. By learning about Pisco and its origin, you will be able to prepare your own “Pisco sour” or “Chilcano”. Overnight at selected hotel.
Transfer to the airport, where you will be assisted with all check-in procedures and taken to the departure area to catch international flight back home.
